How to make toddler and a newborn get along?

It is quite common fact that toddlers usually have a difficulty to stand well with a new member in the family, with those pretty little babies, at least for you. Especially when a toddler have been an only child in the family for quite some time. It clear that it should be pretty hard to give up all that attention, which was given only to them before a new member came. Could you imagine having to share all your parents’ attention with another, at least at that moment unwanted sibling. There is no doubt that it is an important issue, but we honestly hope that with just a little bit of planning the transition may become quite easier. That is why we found few helpful ideas you will love to be aware of.

Talk about sibling a little bit before

Be sure to prepare your little one with some kind of stories about siblings and even before the baby arrives you may start preparing your child for his newly baked sibling. There is a huge variety of great books out there to prepare older children for new ones so be sure to check those out. Another thing you might find really helpful is to make up stories about your kid and his soon-to-be baby brother or sister and their adventures in near future. It should help get him pretty excited.

Little helper

Giving your child jobs that he might help out with once the new baby arrives will allow him to feel more involved and connected. The jobs do no need to be big. Just simple tasks like helping to give his little sibling a bottle will give him a sense of pride and will him feel truly included in the process.

Gifts are great

Telling the truth, it is kind of bribe and honestly, it is not such a bad thing, after all, who cares just if it works, right? All you need to do is to pick out a cool gift for your child from his new sibling that he can open once a newborn arrives.

Show their opinion matter

Having a new sibling might make an older child feel left out at times, that is why you need to not forget to ask for his input when it is possible. Asking for your toddler’s opinion on little things such as what his little brother should wear will surely help him feel more important.

He is able to do much more than the baby

Babies might seem like they get all the attention, but to be honest, there are still plenty of things that they are not able to do. When your child gets to do something extra fun, try to remind them about how great it is that they can do such fun things that their baby sibling is still too little for. Let him know that it is one of many advantages of being an older sibling.

Older one's baby days

Do not forget to show your toddler photos of him as a baby. Talk about how tiny he once was and how you had to help him with so many things back then. That it was quite some time until he became a big kid and could do things for himself. This can create some common ground between toddler and new baby. So be sure to use it.
